Saturday Scramble at Newark January 23, 2010

You might see this from the right side departing Newark International Airport, KEWR, this Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the weekly scramble.

This week we go to Newark for the first time. Newark is the second largest Continental hub and the part of the bussiest airport system in the United States. In 2008, Newark had over 34 million passengers pass through its gateways. Over a million of those passengers came from London-Heathrow. Continental is the largest carrier at Newark, Fedex is the second. US Airways is way down the list. US Airways has service from only three cities, Charlotte, Philadelphia and Phoenix, but, with Continental being a Star Alliance partner, there are plenty of flights to choose from.

US Airways uses terminal A

Interesting piece of trivia, runways 4/22L&R are only 900 feet apart. I think this is too close for simultaneous arrivals and departures. Typically, arriving traffic uses 4R/22L and departing traffic uses 4L/22R. Should be fun.

There will be a bonus catagory again this week, so check back later for details/hints. And, as usual, double hours will be awarded for all who participate.
