Philadelphia

The Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) in the Airline's International backbone. Most of the European Flights depart from here. It serves as the principal gateway for the fifth largest metropolitan population in the United States. Owned by the City of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Airport System (comprised of Philadelphia International Airport and Northeast Philadelphia Airport) is operated by the Department of Commerce's Division of Aviation. Situated on 2,302 acres, the Airport consists of seven (7) terminals (A-East, A-West, B, C, D, E and F) and four runways (9R/27L - 10,500 ft.; 9L-27R - 9,500 ft.; 17/35 - 5,500 ft.; 8/26 - 5,000 ft.). Handling 446,529 aircraft takeoffs and landings in 2003, PHL processed 24,671,075 passengers. Approximately twenty-six (26) scheduled passenger carriers and non-scheduled carriers serve more than 100 domestic and international destinations.

PHL is also served by six all-cargo airlines. Our cargo volume for 2003 was 578,264 tons. In December 1999, PHL opened a new 5,000-foot commuter runway. A new era of regional airline service was ushered in with the opening of Terminal F in June 2001. This 185,000 square-foot facility offers 38 gates for regional and commuter jets, and was designed to accommodate 6 million passengers a year. In Spring 2003, PHL opened the new International Terminal complex to accommodate PHL's growing number of international passengers. With the addition of a new, 4-level, 800,000 square-foot facility, the International Terminal complex offers more than 1 million square feet of space and 13 new international gates.
