Anniversary Scramble in Philadelphia, January 16, 2010

It's another birthday for Virtual-USAairways.com. Another year has rolled around with a number of changes, so it is time to celebrate big time.

The Saturday Scramble heads for Philadelphia, largest international hub for US Airways, as well as a major domestic hub. You can go just about anywhere from Philadelphia (excpet Honolulu, you need to go down to Charlotte for that flight). We practically own Philadelphia. Terminal A-West is for the heavies and international flights, Terminals B and C are for domestic flights and the new Terminal F, with its 38 gates, is for regional jet traffic.
Interestingly, Philadelphia International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world and among the fastest growing in the United States. Its status as a US Airways hub and the growth of Southwest Airlines and other low-cost carriers has helped passenger traffic to reach record levels. In 2004, a total of 28,507,420 passengers flew through Philadelphia, up 15.5% over 2003. In 2008 there were nearly 500,000 aircraft movements, making Philadelphia International the 11th bussiest in the world. In 2006, 31,768,272 passengers flew through PHL.

And what would an Anniversary Scramble be with out a contest? This week we will be having two opportunities to earn extra hours. First, the hub that flies the most hours will be given 5 bonus hours each. Second, the hub that flies the most flights will get the same 5 bonus hours. Hub managers, you may want to run a poll to focus your efforts. Since the event is in Philadelphia, I am sure there is Hub Pride involved, but I am also sure that Mike and the Philly boys better take the challenge seriously.

Hope to see you in the skies or on the ground in Philadelphia, Saturday January 16, 2010 between 2300z (6pm EST) and 0300z.
